simple,
but powerful

Our simple but powerful GovernWell dashboard allows volunteer Directors (and staff if there are any) to efficiently manage all the data, documents and deadlines involved in keeping your not-for-profit or charitable corporation in good standing with both the Corporate Registry and the Canada Revenue Agency.

GovernWell tracks the due dates of required corporate administration activities and provides visual and email reminders.

When a new Director joins your Board do you equip them with all the information they need to be effective?

In our work with Not-For-Profit and charitable organizations, we commonly encounter the following problems:

Critical corporate records not stored securely - paper documents stored in the home office, basement or garage of one volunteer Director and passed on to new Directors over time

Corporate administration work constantly being handed off as volunteer Directors and staff change over time - and things getting lost, overlooked and forgotten

Annual filings to the Corporate Registry and CRA not completed on time or incorrect/incomplete

Basic corporate information and records not easily accessible to all Directors (and staff) when needed for grant applications, banking changes or other corporate activities

All required personal information on Directors (contact details, date of birth, election dates, officer roles, etc.) not robustly collected or securely managed

Digital documents stored on vulnerable personal computers and regularly shared by insecure email

By using

your organization will benefit from:

Our Story

“Michael has experienced first hand the various challenges that volunteer Directors of not-for-profit and charitable organizations have completing all the work required to keep their corporate entities in good standing.”

Michael Gordon

Before moving to Orillia in 2002, Michael spent 10 years with global consulting firm McKinsey & Company in Toronto. Since then, he has been an active volunteer Board member for a wide variety of charities and not-for-profit organizations, often as a Board Chair, Vice-Chair, Governance Committee chair or Treasurer.

In all of these roles, Michael has experienced first hand the various challenges that volunteer Directors (and staff if any) of not-for-profit and charitable organizations have completing all the work required (keeping books and records, completing annual filings, tracking members, Directors and Officers and holding annual meetings) to keep their corporate entities in good standing.

Michael founded GovernWell to develop a simple, inexpensive software for not-for-profits and charities to support their corporate administration and keep their corporate entities healthy!

Michael holds an MBA from INSEAD and a Bachelor of Commerce from Queen’s University. He was recognized as Orillia’s Citizen of the Year in 2018 for his volunteer contributions to numerous local not-for-profits and charities.
